“Fastest, most reliable Wi-Fi” – SITAONAIR-connected A380 takes to the skies22.12.2017
Around 100 VIP guests joined the landmark 14-hour trip from Airbus Delivery Center in Toulouse, France, to Singapore Changi Airport, to experience Singapore Airlines’ hotly-anticipated A380 cabin, and gave the plane’s internet service a big thumbs up.
“It was definitely the most reliable, fast and seamless Wi-Fi experience I’ve had on an aircraft so far!” said aviation analyst Alex Macheras.
“At its peak, there were 70 connected users inflight, and the speeds were super strong. Applications like WhatsApp were as if they were on the ground, with messages being delivered and received without any slight pause or interruption, nor delay.”
Long-standing customer Singapore Airlines’ next gen A380 has been equipped with SITAONAIR’s award-winning Internet ONAIR inflight Wi-Fi portal and Mobile ONAIR service. Both are powered by Link ONAIR services over Inmarsat’s GX Aviation – offering reliable and seamless high-speed broadband services with global coverage and giving passengers a similar experience to what they would have on the ground.
To further celebrate this first linefit delivery of GX Aviation capabilities, passengers were offered free, unlimited Wi-Fi access – displaying the innate flexibility of the Internet ONAIR portal to accommodate any inflight offer an airline customer might wish to deliver.
By enabling Wi-Fi on their personal electronic devices, passengers achieved seamless inflight internet connectivity, simply by entering their email address, just as they would to use any on-the-ground public hotspot.
Key statistics from the SIA ferry flight:
- All passengers surfed the Internet with one or more devices
- On average, more than 50% were simultaneously connected, with a peak of 100%
- Passengers were able to stream Netflix and YouTube, update cloud services, post Instagram live stories and connect with businesses, friends and families
- Many passengers used around 2GB during the flight

The first SIA A380 commercial flight took place on 18 December with the same success, enabling all passengers to enjoy the benefits of the inflight connectivity with Link ONAIR on GX Aviation.
